Computer Headphones
If you enjoy playing games or watching movies on your PC, you may well be doing so using a pair of cheap speakers that came with your machine. When you consider the amount of work that goes into the soundtracks of not only movies but also PC games these days, it's only right that you should do your media justice and invest in good audio equipment. All well and good if you live somewhere where you can buy a pair of good speakers and crank them up nice and loud, not so good if you live somewhere where you have to stay quiet. So if you are limited to a pair of headphones, what kind should you get for your PC?
You are probably going to be using a lot of compressed audio with these phones; converted movies, video games or mp3s at variable quality levels so you want a pair that will really make the most of the audio that you have got. If you are using your phones for PC gaming, you probably will also want to invest in a set of headphones that include a microphone. These are great for games like massive online multiplayer RPGs or First Person Shooters where you need to communicate amongst team mates easily during a game. If a microphone is important to you then you may as well combine them all into one.
You will need to make sure that you have suitable outputs on your PC to plug your phones into. You may also want to buy a pair with a volume control built onto the phones as you won't always be using a traditional headphone port and may have to plug direct into the PC soundcard. It's not essential but can sometimes save you with messing about on the computer's volume control. Speedlink make a number of budget sets that you can pick up for as little as $5, whilst Everglide cater to the more serious gamer with phones starting from around the $50 mark.
