Wireless Movie Headphones

If you live in a house with lots of other people, a flat or an appartment you will know how difficult it can be to watch movies with the sound turned up, and even harder to enjoy movies in exciting Dolby Surround Sound. Luckily you do still have options, and one of those is to invest in a quality pair of wireless headphones designed for TV, movies and games. They're fantastic, they allow you to crank the volume up nice and loud, enjoying movies the way they were made to be enjoyed without upsetting the other people that you live with. So what should you look out for when you buy a pair?

Dolby Headphone - A system designed by Dolby which uses technology to emulate the surround effects of Dolby Digital in a conventional pair of stereo headphones. It's important to note at this point that Dolby Headphone is basically an 'effect'; it's not using numerous speakers positioned around the room to create it's surround sound and so the effect will be different for each person. There are some movies I have watched using a pair of Dolby Headphone phones that have made me genuinely believe that the sounds I was hearing were coming from behind me, but clearly this will always depend on the person listening and what they are watching. Either way they sound spectacular and will breathe new life into your movie collection if you've only ever watched movies through your TV speakers before. Likewise, if you own a PlayStation 3 or XBox 360 with Dolby Digital output you can now enjoy your favourite games with breathtaking sound.

Base Station - Invest in a pair that come with a decent base station as all of your audio is going to be pumped through this. You will want at least one digital input, ideally two as well as analogue for your TV source. Make sure the battery life on the phones is good and ensure that you are going to get a good range on the headphones as well, you need to be able to sit at the other end of your living room without the audio dropping out or breaking up.
